Our parent company, Urbaser S.A.U, is based in Spain and has extensive experience in the provision of environmental services both nationally and internationally. At present, we are the third largest environmental services provider in Europe, providing high profile waste treatment, waste and recycling collection, street cleansing and grounds maintenance services in cities including Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Porto and London. In addition, we also operate comparable operations across Asia, North Africa and South America.
December 1998
In 1998 Mercia Waste Management Ltd (a joint venture in which Urbaser Ltd is a 50% partner) entered into an initial 25 year integrated waste management PFI contract with Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council, marking Urbaser Ltd’s first environmental services contract in the UK.
November 2009
Operations commenced on EnviroSort, a 105,000 tonne per year materials recycling facility as part of the 25 year integrated waste management PFI contract with Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council.
October 2010
Urbaser Ltd secures its first municipal services contract, undertaking the street cleansing services for the Isle of Wight Council.
April 2011
Urbaser Ltd commenced a 10 year contract to undertake waste and recycling collection and streets cleansing services for Gosport Borough Council.
May 2012.
Urbaser Ltd and its partner Balfour Beatty entered into a residual waste treatment PFI contract with Essex County Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for the design, construction, commissioning and 25 year operation of a mechanical biological treatment facility in Basildon.
February 2013
Urbaser Ltd and its partner Balfour Beatty entered into a residual waste treatment PFI contract with Gloucestershire County Council for the design, construction and commissioning, and 25 year operation of an energy-from-waste facility in Haresfield, Gloucestershire.

Work started on the construction of Tovi Eco Park mechanical biological treatment facility for Essex County Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.
June 2013
Urbaser Ltd commenced a 6 year and 4 month contract to undertake street cleansing and ground maintenance services for London Borough of Waltham Forest Council.
May 2014
Work started on the construction of EnviRecover, a 200,000 tonne per year energy-from-waste facility as part of the 25 year integrated waste management PFI contract with Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council.
November 2014
The first residual waste arrived at the Tovi Eco Park mechanical biological treatment facility on 26th November 2014, marking the start of a period of hot commissioning for the Essex residual waste treatment facility.
June 2014
Urbaser Ltd commenced an 8 year contract to undertake waste and recycling collection and streets cleansing services for Burnley Borough Council.
October 2015
Urbaser Ltd moved to new, larger headquarters in Cheltenham, marking a new phase of growth for the company in the environmental services sector.
April 2016
Urbaser Ltd commenced an 8 year contract to undertake the recycling collection service for Bournemouth Borough Council.
June 2016
Urbaser Ltd commenced an 8 year contract to undertake the public conveniences cleansing for St Albans City and District Council.
September 2016
The first residual waste arrived at the EnviRecover energy-from-waste facility on 16th September 2016, marking the start of a period of hot commissioning for the Worcestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council residual waste treatment facility.
September 2016
Urbaser Ltd signed a five-year extension to its waste and recycling collection and streets cleansing services contract for Gosport Borough Council.
November 2016
Urbaser Ltd Balfour Beatty have begun construction of Gloucestershire’s Javelin Park energy-from-waste facility. The facility will generate around 14.5 MW of electricity for export, which is enough to power 25,000 homes and is expected to be fully operational in late 2019.
April 2017
Urbaser Ltd commenced a 5 year contract (as a subcontractor to VolkerHighways Ltd) to undertake the street cleansing for Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council
May 2018
Urbaser Ltd commenced a 7-year joint contract with North Hertfordshire and East Hertfordshire Borough Councils to provide waste collection and street cleansing services.
March 2019
Urbaser Ltd commenced an 8-year joint contract with Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Councils to provide waste collection and street cleansing services.
