The year was 1950 and a young Joe Urbanowicz, Sr. began the family jewelry tradition. Joe Sr. worked for 32 years serving the jewelry needs of Pittsburghers from the Southside landmark, Siegels Jewelers. In 1982, at the age of 50, he decided to open his own store - Urbanowicz Jewelers in the Caste Village Shoppes. Along with his wife Dolly, they brought experience, trust and a fine tradition of personal service to their new business.
During his high school and college years Joe Urbanowicz , Jr. learned alongside his dad. Receiving his BS in Mining Engineering (with honors form PSU – Go Penn State!), Joe pursued his career as a mining engineer. He advanced through his company to Chief Engineer-Professional Engineer (P.E.). Joe and his young family moved several times from Kentucky to Louisiana and finally West Virginia.
Sadly in 1992, Joe Sr. passed away. Joe Jr. returned to Pittsburgh for a short time to help his mom with the family business. Joe always had a fondness for gems and minerals (all that Penn State geology). It was during this time that Joe's love for fine jewelry took root. Joe and his wife Cyndi decided to make it permanent. Joe continued his education to become a Graduate Gemologist (G.G) and the tradition remained unbroken.
