Universal Recycling Company was formed in 1992 with the merger of A. Loewenthal Metals founded in 1938 by Alfred Loewenthal and Universal Metal Holdings, an associated company of the Cape Gate Group. In 2013 Cape Gate Holding was bought out by the remaining shareholders.
