Since our beginning, Tom Kraemer, Inc. (TKI) has undergone various transformations and changes, but one thing has remained the same – the Kraemer family commitment to customers, quality and professional service

The history of Tom Kraemer Inc. began in 1938 when Albert Kraemer started Kraemer Dray Line, hauling freight for the Burlington Northern Railroad and various other companies in the area. Albert decided to expand the services in 1943 and began a refuse service, collecting refuse on Saturdays in the city of Cold Spring, Minn.

Albert sold Kraemer Dray Line to his oldest son, Jim, in 1970. That merger began Kraemer Trucking and Excavating, which continued to expand and grow. In 1977, the services split when Jim’s younger brother Tom purchased the garbage route and called it Town and Kountry Sanitation. From humble beginnings, the company quickly expanded to become one of the largest sanitation companies in the area. In fact, Tom Kraemer Sanitation was the first garbage company in the country to use volume-based pricing and one-stop pick up.

Tom opened TK Demolition Disposal in 1989 in Cold Spring, Minn. Seven years later, he sold the garbage route. Tom continued to dispose of demolition material using only two trucks and 27 containers, naming it Tom Kraemer, Inc. (TKI).

That was just the beginning of TKI’s growth and development. In 2005, our roll-off and landfill services expanded with the acquisition of Glenwood Demolition Disposal. TKI acquired Ideal Container of Sauk Rapids, Minn. in 2008 launching us into the portable storage container business. In 2010, TKI acquired Ray Bautch’s companies, greatly expanding our portable storage division and catapulting us into the portable restroom business.

Today, TKI has three locations with two landfills located in Cold Spring, Minn. and Glenwood, Minn. Tom’s sons, Brian & Tim, mark the third generation to take over TKI and maintain the family tradition of guaranteeing prompt, professional services for your job, no matter how big or small.
