In 1907, J. Ralph Tobin opened a jewelry store on the south side of the Square in Springfield, Illinois. The opening day memento given to all was a bell with the slogan "ring the bell for your popular priced jeweler." Through the years, Ralph was joined in the business by his son, Willard, and granddaughter Ann Tobin Hart. Today the jewelry store is run by the fourth generation of the Tobin family, R. Evan Hart. In the 1960's, Tobin Jewelers was one of the first to begin the direct importing of diamonds from Amsterdam. The reputation of the business grew to reflect the commitment to fine quality, excellent service, knowledgeable staff and competitive prices. Ann Tobin Hart, Willard's daughter, joined Tobin Jewelers in 1974. Ann was also committed to community service. She served as President of the Junior League of Springfield, served on the Board of Downtown Parking, Mental Health Association of Central Illinois, Memorial Medical Center, and was the first woman to serve as chairman of The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. She remains active in the business today and continues her commitment to community service. In 1994, Tobin Jewelers moved from downtown to its current location in The Gables. Though the faces of the generations and the location of the store have changed, Tobin Jewelers' dedication to quality jewelry, service and commitment to the Springfield community has remained. I welcome you to visit Tobin Jewelers where you can -- just as you could on the opening day 103 years ago --"ring the bell for Tobin." Come and experience THE TOBIN TRADITION.
