Our missions

Tibi's primary mission is to ensure integrated waste management on its territory. The treatment methods for this waste are ranked according to their low impact on the environment.

Waste prevention

Tibi first gives priority to waste prevention in  order to encourage citizens to limit their production of household waste . The best waste is the one that does not exist!

Reuse

Tibi then relies on reuse to promote the reintegration of unused objects into the second-hand goods sectors.

In this spirit, Tibi contributed to the establishment of the Ressourcerie du Val de Sambre  in 2013.

Sorting and recycling

Tibi then takes care of the promotion of waste sorting and recycling by developing efficient channels.

63% of the waste produced by the inhabitants of the Tibi zone is now sorted .

In addition, since March 1, 2018, Tibi has been in charge of public cleanliness in the Charleroi intra-ring:

• the removal of wild and bulky deposits,
• street sweeping (mechanized and manual),
• the emptying of public bins,
• prevention through awareness campaigns.

In the Charleroi extra-ring , the intermunicipal company only provides mechanical street sweeping.

Energy recovery

The residual waste that have not been recycled or recovered by biogas  is incinerated and recycled into electricity at the Valuation Unit Energy  of Pont-de-Loup.

Elimination

The final waste account for only 1% of the total waste produced in the area Tibi . They are deposited in a Technical Landfill Center.

For the general public, Tibi's most visible missions remain door-to-door waste collections and voluntary contributions of waste to recyparks.

Our history

70 years serving the environment

The Association Intercommunale pour la Collecte et la Destruction des Immondices (ICDI) was created on March 22, 1948. At the time, around twenty municipalities gave their agreement in principle to join a cooperative waste management company. . Six years later, the territory covered by the Intercommunal then had 289,192 inhabitants spread over 21 former municipalities.

Today, the intermunicipal company is changing its identity and name. She becomes Tibi. The area served by Tibi covers an area of ​​nearly 535 km2 for a population estimated at more than 421,000 inhabitants grouped together in 14 affiliated municipalities.
