We are your neighbors. Founded by lifetime Washingtonian, Barney Shapiro, what started out of the back of his pick-up truck in the mid 90s, is now one of the dominant, full-service waste management companies in town.

Barney Shapiro, a Woodrow Wilson High School graduate, founded Tenleytown Trash under the principal of “better service for his community.” Originally a small builder and developer in the District during the 80s, he moved to the trash business in 1997 and hasn’t looked back. His “Team,” as he calls them, are like family, some of them having been with the company for over 10 years. And some actually are family.
