Tampa Steel Erecting (the Company), Florida’s oldest Erector-Fabricator began operations on October 1, 1945. Initially, the Company concentrated on industrial contracts that primarily involved steel erecting. By the 1960’s, the Company had grown its operations to include full fabrication capabilities for a variety of steel applications, and later, in the 1990’s Tampa Steel opted to exclusively focus the Company’s efforts on steel bridges due to higher margins and lack of local competition.

The Company has received several accolades and has been involved in many notable projects in its long and successful history. The Company was selected by Metal Fabricating News as one of the five most modem fabricators and users of high technology structural manufacturing in North America. Some of the Company’s more notable projects include the fabrication and erection of structural steel for the 39-story One Tampa City Center, Spaceship Earth and The Living Seas at Disney’s EPCOT Center, and arched banana shaped pipe trusses for Airside F at Tampa International Airport. Some notable fabrication only projects are 14,000 tons of steel for Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station #4, 1.4 miles of elevated people mover girders for the Omni Extension in Dade County Florida, and the Acosta Bridge approach ramps for the Florida Department of Transportation. Since the 1994 initial plant upgrade, which expanded the Company’s fabrication capabilities, Tampa Steel has been recognized and received awards for numerous projects.
