SYBERT's global policy gives priority to the reduction and recovery of waste . This is why it implements actions based on modifying the behavior of residents. The implementation of billing of waste by volume, lifting and weight by its member communities is one of them. Indeed, all the inhabitants of the territory pay for their waste via an incentive fee set up by the member communities between 2011 and 2013.

The residual household waste (gray bins) of the SYBERT is treated by energy recovery in two incineration lines, one built in 1976 and the other in 2002. In 2008, the elected representatives of the territory decided to do everything possible to do not renew the oldest oven after it has stopped. In 2016, the SYBERT elected officials voted to stop the 1976 line in 2021 .

Consequently, SYBERT and its members have put in place tools to support residents in reducing and sorting their waste.

In order to offer solutions for diversion or reduction of waste at source, SYBERT has embarked on a vast prevention and local composting program for inhabitants of urban and rural areas , with the support of the European Union. and ADEME Bourgogne Franche-Comté. The objective is that, in the long term, each inhabitant can have a solution for the management of their bio-waste .

At the same time, SYBERT modernized its network of waste reception centers , increasing the number of channels, in order to increase the rate of material and energy recovery while deploying video protection and access control. 

It also built a sorting center for packaging and paper commissioned in 2012. In 2016, the SYBERT territory moved to sorting instructions extended to all plastic packaging .

SYBERT has also created a center for sorting bulky items and massification of waste streams from waste reception centers , commissioned in July 2015. This enables material and energy recovery to be increased as well as drastically reduced waste buried in landfills. storage center.
