Our Story

The story started almost 50 years ago in 1967 when a man named Vern Sims started a business providing garbage pick up services to the residents of the Los Gatos Mountains. Since then, the business has grown and changed. Recycling services and an increase in residents needing personalized garbage service provided Philip, Vern's son, the ability to carry on with his fathers business.  Philip aka Phil has spent his entire life building and maintaining these relationships that have been fundamental to his success. He has built his reputation on honesty, integrity and great service.  Philip has spent many years looking at options to exit the business, due to personal reasons, but wanted to entrust his business to someone who would carry on his and his fathers legacy.  An opportunity presented itself over a breakfast meeting, and thus the idea of Summit Waste & Recycling Services was born.

Emma & James have been residents of the Santa Cruz Mountains since the 1980's. James is a California native and Emma was born in England, but has been in the United States since she was seven. Emma is a hospital administrator at a 24 hour veterinary emergency hospital, and has been in the field since 2006. She has a bachelors degree is Business Management and will be running the business from her home office, while still working full time. James and Emma have four children with only one still living at home. Their youngest son is in now in 4thgrade.   James has a passion for farming and motorcycles. He can grow just about anything and really believes in sustainable and organic farming. He has chickens and is trying to convince Emma to get a pot belly pig.
