Al’s interest in cars started at a very young age. His father built, raced and repaired midgets. I1971 Al went to work and became owner of Lane Service in Carleton, Michigan where he primarily performed vehicle restoration and repairs. Over the years Al has restored many well-known vehicles.
These vehicles include but are not limited to the Detroit Lions Holman and Moody Race Boat, Lee Iacocca’s 1982 Lamborghini and the Hertz Rent-A-Car 1966 Shelby Mustang Fastback. Not to mention a 10-year restoration of a 1962 Bubble-Top Impala purchased by General Motors for exhibition at the Woodward Dream Cruise in 2002.
Al has won several awards for his completely restored 1962 Corvette including Autorama three years in a row (1988,1989,1990). He has won several awards at the Super Chevy Shows including Indianapolis and Bloomington. Al also restored his 1971 Pontiac GT 37, a vehicle that was only in production for one year, which he raced often at Detroit Dragway.
The Lane family tradition of racing has continued with his son AJ, who has won seven Great Lakes Regional Championships as well as the 2001 Grand Championship with the World Karting Association. With Al’s knowledge and experience with restoring and repairing vehicles it was just a matter of time for him to become involved in the Automotive Recycling Industry.
