Corporate headquarters and primary plant facilities are located in the near Westside of South Bend (IN). Readily accessible from Interstates 80, 90, and 94, the home of Steel Warehouse processes light- to heavy-gauge (up to .875") carbon steel to include pickling, slitting, coil to coil gauge and shape correcting temper passing, temper pass cut to length, leveling, blanking and shearing.

What once was merely a small single-bay building used for slitting has grown and evolved into one of the industry's largest and most comprehensive steel service centers in the United States.

Viewed by many as an industry trend-setting processing line, the company's temper pass, cut-to-length sheet and plate line has set the pace for others. The strength, engineering and capacity of the line provide our customers the assurance of flatness and the elimination of coil memory. The installation in July 2000 of a state-of-the-art continuous double bow-tie rotary shear will further enhance the quality, accuracy, and productivity of the line in providing customers with high-quality, cost-effective production-ready material in a timely manner to customers in a variety of industries.

History

In 1947, Steel Warehouse began in a small rented building with a used shear, rented lift truck, lots of manual labor and a plan to liquidate steel from a toy building venture. Shortly thereafter, other opportunities seized by company founder and president Nate Lerman set Steel Warehouse on a path of growth, innovation and industry leadership.

Since then, growth of the company has been steady, if not at times explosive. At first, there was just a handful of employees. Today, there are over 1200 members of the Steel Warehouse family.

Originally, we serviced customers within a small radius of South Bend. Now, we ship material throughout most of the country from South Bend - the site of our earliest beginnings - and our network branch facilities.
