Our History
My grandfather Otto Springer was already trading in East Prussia before World War II, and even then with scrap iron and scrap metal. Immediately after the end of the war and after being expelled from the east, he resumed trading here in the west, initially with a handcart in Metjendorf. In 1950 the opportunity arose to settle on a small company site in Easterburger Weitzstrasse. With the support of my father from 1952 onwards, the company gradually grew. A Tempo three-wheeled delivery van was purchased for the collection of scrap and scrap metal, which the older of us may still be familiar with.
When the area on Weitzstraße was no longer sufficient for the volumes and their processing, the company moved to Sandweg in 1960; the larger area allowed the erection of the first large scissors and a gantry crane, an enormous improvement compared to the previously almost exclusively manual work.
But the location on Sandweg soon became too small; in addition, there was the expanding residential development in this area. So
In 1970/71, we were the first company to move to the newly created industrial park on Viktoriastraße. The initially 15,000 square meter site was paved in all necessary areas and provided with oil separators and sand traps. Bit by bit, it was expanded into a modern and efficient company, which today extends to around 31,000 square meters.
The increasing amount of waste in these years, especially in the commercial sector, soon led to the useful addition of a container rental to the scrap and metal trade. This branch of business also expanded more and more in the course of the following years. Springer & Sohn GmbH & Co.KG has been a recognized waste management company since 1998, which has made a name for itself in Oldenburg and the surrounding area.
In 2004 Wilhelm Hilse and my father Manfred Springer handed over the management. My brother Oliver Springer joined the company at the same time. He and I are now the third generation to run the company.
EISENKILLER - a lot of cutting!
Our first large scissors were built in 1970. It had over 500 tons of cutting power and was ceremonially christened "Eisenkiller" with a ceremony.
Its modern successor, consequently named "Eisenkiller-II" based on James Cameron's Terminator, was put into service in 1993. Its 800 tons of cutting force still ensure fast, transport-friendly shredding.
