Spartan is a spinoff from Associated Machine Tool Technologies (AmTTech), a distinguished distributor of machine tools serving the Texas market for nearly three-decades. AmTTech provides sales, service, and applications for machine brands including Samsung, Soraluce, WFL, SNK-Niigata, and YCM. Jack Butts, AmTTech’s owner, had sought out and developed terrific machines to compliment the firm’s main brands. These products patched deficiencies in the lineups of major machine-tool builders. Originally, AmTTech imported and promoted these only in its home market of Texas. Customers loved them, and AmTTech continually refined them to best serve the market. Then, in late 2014, Jack led an investor group to purchase one of the supplying factories, today named Momentum, LLC. As this business grew, it became clear that its scope should expand well beyond the state of Texas. As business grew, AmTTech concluded that a machine OEM/importer should leverage its efforts via sales across all of North America, not only in Texas. Further, Doosan strongly encouraged putting the new products into a separate operating unit. Thus, Spartan was born in early 2015, to provide these niche-filling products throughout North America, with the goal of improving choices for users of these machine niches, in terms of machine cost, capability, and support.
