SORTAG Zürich AG was founded in 1985 as an amalgamation of independent companies with the aim of operating a large system together.
Building rubble and bulky goods should no longer be deposited, but separated and processed so that the cycle is closed. With the slogan at the time, “Make a virtue out of necessity”, SORTAG Zürich AG has established itself as a pioneer in a time when landfills were still common. At the time, the system was even the largest sorting center in Europe. The groundbreaking took place in August 1986 and in May 1987 the plant went into operation.
Almost 30 years later, with the commissioning of the new system, SORTAG Zürich AG is again setting new standards in terms of efficiency and resource conservation. In the meantime, sustainability is no longer just seen as a virtue, but as an investment in the future that is promoted out of conviction.
SORTAG Zürich AG has set itself the task of making a significant contribution to conserving resources and closing the cycle through forward-looking planning and the use of state-of-the-art technology. With the new building, the SORTAG system is state-of-the-art and meets the latest standards / guidelines of the AWEL. Urban mining will become more and more important in the future, as primary resources are finite and their extraction is more expensive than the processing of secondary resources. The new system is therefore also an investment in a sustainable future, in which secondary resources can be sorted out and processed more efficiently, which means that primary resources can be more conserved.
