Fifteen years ago, the joint-stock company Sloval was established. It produced aluminum from alumina, but in a non-ecological way. Later, the company was transformed into a plant in which scrap was merely remelted. Finally, SLOVAL was abolished as a legal form. Its production activities were relocated and continued to process waste generated on the premises of ZSNP, a.s.
At the end of 2006, an analysis of compliance with ecological parameters was carried out and SLOVAL did not meet the demanding criteria, which came into force in January 2007. Na ZSNP, a.s. it was decided whether or not to invest in ecological facilities and to continue to operate this plant. They decided not to invest and stopped the plant.
The company ŽHS, a.s. then decided to take over part of the technology and employees from ZSNP, a.s. and raising the resources offered by the European Union to finance environmental projects.
Based on the developed project documentation, project budget and planned technical and economic indicators, a financial analysis of the project was prepared. The conclusions of the analysis confirmed the reality of the project with a very long payback period, but an extremely significant contribution in the field of ecology.
A significant effect will be that the waste aluminum, generated in the production of semi-finished products by sawing, pressing, casting and would end up in small processors whose technological equipment is not subject to strict environmental values, SLOVAL recycles on the spot into a sales form - aluminum foundry alloys.
These are a key raw material for the production of aluminum castings. This will significantly reduce the amount of waste deposited in the landfill and recycling directly in the area of the industrial park will prevent unnecessary transport, ie environmental burden on the roads.
After the project was approved by the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, its implementation could begin. In particular, the preparation of production facilities and infrastructure, relocation of technological equipment and their subsequent assembly and modernization.
A completely new, efficient filtration facility was added to the reconstructed production hall. Both furnaces, Striko 10, and RotaÄná, are extracted, which ensures a clean working environment in the hall and at the same time prevents the leakage of pollutants arising during melting into the air. Other buildings are also completely renovated or newly built - a warehouse building, a shelter, a scale, boxes for individual waste classes, roads, as well as offices and sanitary facilities for employees.
The alloys are cast into blocks, but it is also possible to supply them in a liquid state. The trial operation started in March 2008. At present, the company SlovAL, s.r.o. employs 23 employees, when it reaches full planned production it will have 29 employees. SLOVAL plans to produce up to 5,000 tons of aluminum alloys per year, while in the future it is possible to increase production according to market requirements.
