Filling the Need for Septic Tanks

The Shelley family has taken waste to reuse and recycle it since 1990. Our hope is to make the groves and hayfields in Center Florida greener.

Barbara and David Shelly met at Apopka High School and became instant sweethearts. Barbara and David both came from families that taught them the value of a dollar and financial rewards that come with hard work.

Putting college aside to start a family and enter the job market, they established Shelly's Environmental in 1985 after David witnessed a local company charge his employer a lot of money after 15 minutes of work cleaning the package plant at the facility he managed.

With help from family and local businessmen, Barbara and David realized their entrepreneurial spirit. They bought used equipment and reversed the manifold on a truck to vacuum waste from package plants. From then on, they were in the business of hauling and treating waste.

As national homebuilders arrived in central Florida to build new housing, David and Barbara installed septic systems necessary for growth. David and Barbara worked from their home the first several years. People would see David and Barbara working side-by-side to get the work done. Their motto has always been "Whatever it takes: Hard work, ethics and strong family values to meet the needs of the many."

As the regulations concerning septic systems and human waste grew, David and Barbara adapted and worked with lawmakers and government officials to stay at the forefront of the business to ensure they set examples ahead of their competitors. Currently, Shelley's Septic Tanks, DBA Shelley's Environmental installs septic tanks and drain fields, pump lift stations, package plants and haul and treat cake sludge from municipalities to keep up with the ever-increasing demands of sewer systems in the Zellwood, FL area.
