The history of Sapa started in 1963, when two Swedish entrepreneurs started producing aluminium extrusions at a single-press operation in Vetlanda, Sweden. Growing organically and through acquisitions, the company entered the 21st century as the leading aluminium extruder in Europe and, later, the United States.
Fifty years later, in 2013, the organization took a major step by joining forces with the aluminium extrusion operations of Norsk Hydro. This made the new Sapa the largest manufacturer of engineered aluminium solutions in the world.
Today, Sapa is a 50/50 joint venture between Orkla and Norsk Hydro. We are headquartered in Oslo. With more than 100 plants in 40 countries, Sapa is one of the world's leading manufacturing companies.
"Our purpose is to shape a sustainable future through innovative aluminium solutions. There are two parts to this.
"With aluminium, we help reduce emissions from transportation, be it cars, trucks, vesselsand other modes of transportation. We also help reduce the energy consumption of buildings. And more than half of all our products are made from recycled material.
We want to make a decent profit decently. We know that a safe operation is a profitable operation, and we invest in employee health and safety because we believe that all work-related injuries and illness can be avoided. Our dedicated work is shown in our low injury rate and high product quality.
We have an integrated approach to EHS, based on communication, training, auditing and rewards. All locations are responsible for implementing our global environment, health and safety policy and for putting governing frameworks into practice to create a safe working environment for our employees.
Sapa has a zero-vision with regard to injuries, and a long-term target to avoid and eliminate all types of injury, incident and occupational illness. These are some of the activities we carry out to help eliminate risk before accidents can occur:
