The Agency is committed to be an innovative, responsive, and integrated solid waste organization that provides a safe, cost-efficient and environmentally-sound management of solid waste generated for its customers in Santa Fe County while educating the public in the importance of waste diversion programs including waste reduction, recycling, composting, and special waste. The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency (SFSWMA) was formed in 1995, under the terms of the New Mexico Joint Powers Agreements Act, NMSA 1978 Sections 11-1-1- through 11-1-7, by a Joint Powers Agreement executed by the City of Santa Fe and the County of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Agreement delegated the Agency the power to plan for, operate, construct, maintain, repair, replace or expand the Caja del Rio Landfill and ultimately the Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station (BuRRT).The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency, in conjunction with the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County are excited to announce new items that Santa Fe residents can recycle.Paperboard or chipboard, is the material that most cereal boxes, snack food boxes, soda boxes, and four/six pack containers are made out of. This material has not been accepted in Santa Fe's program, but due to changes in the recycling market, we are now able to allow our residents to include it in the curbside and drop-off collection programs. Because of it's versatility, paperboard can be placed EITHER with cardboard or with the mixed recyclables. In addition, residents can add Pizza Boxes to their recycling. Please make sure that any food materials (e.g. uneaten pizza, crust, etc.) have been removed from the box. In addition, please throw away the paper that the pizza sits on and the little plastic 'tent' which protects the cheese from the top of the box. If your box is greasy, that's OK...it can still be recycled.SFSWMA is committed to be an innovative, responsive, and integrated solid waste organization that provides a safe, cost-efficient and environmentally-sound management of solid waste generated for its customers in Santa Fe County while educating the public in the importance of waste diversion programs including waste reduction, recycling, composting, and special waste.
