Sandspring Resources Ltd. (TSX.V: SSP) is a Canadian-listed junior gold mining company leading the responsible development of South America's emerging western Guyana gold district. Focused on bringing into production its 100%-owned 4.1 million ounce Toroparu Gold Project, Sandspring continues to explore its 98,214-hectare concession with the aim of realizing the geologic potential of this highly prospective, mining-friendly jurisdiction. The Toroparu Gold Deposit lies within a mineralized corridor that is approximately 2.7 km long, 200 m to 400 m wide, and over 400 m deep. Ore from the deposit will be mined from a conventional open pit that the Company expects to have operational by 2016. The ore processing facility will consist of separate leaching and flotation circuits that produce both gold doré bars that will be flown off-site, and gold-bearing copper concentrates for shipment to a custom smelter. This facility is expected to process an initial throughput of 19,000 tons per day, and increase to 22,500 tons per day in its fourth year of production.
Sandspring also continues to explore the Upper Puruni Region of western Guyana with the aim of adding to its reserves via three key avenues:
Ultimately, Sandspring's goal is to develop the exploration potential of the areas surrounding the Toroparu Gold Project and the greater western Guyana gold district. This district is located within the Guiana Shield, which is the northern segment of the Amazonian Craton of South America, a dismembered portion of the West African Craton. Over 30 gold deposits are in production in the West African Craton as a result of the systematic exploration of the Paleo-Proterozoic volcano-sedimentary belts located within its boundaries.Similarly, giant gold deposits like Las Cristinas and Las Brisas have been discovered by the systematic exploration of the volcano-sedimentary belts located in the Venezuelan portion the Guiana Shield. The volcano-sedimentary belts of Guyana share the same geological history as both Venezuela and the West African Shield, but remain largely unexplored by systematic methods. It is possible that with sufficient systematic exploration, the volcano-sedimentary belts of Guyana will yield additional major gold deposits similar to those found in the more explored portions of these shields.Sandspring's successful development of the Toroparu Project will provide Sandspring with a robust platform for realizing the geologic potential of this emerging and highly prospective gold district.
