History

THE BEGINNING WAS A QUARRY

Around the turn of the century, 1898 - 1910, sandstones were broken in a quarry on top of the castle hill, right next to the water tower, and horse-drawn carts brought them to Nuremberg. Johann Körner, born as a farmer's son in Niederlindach, was one of the coachmen who carried out these horse transports. He married Margarete Kästner, a farmer's daughter from Bubenreuth, who took care of the physical well-being of the workers in the Baßler quarry.

THE TRANSPORT CAME QUICKLY

After the marriage, the couple went into business for themselves. They bought horses and wagons and ran a transport company. They pulled logs from Rathsberg with their horses for the König (carpenter) company and in winter they transported ice from the nearby canal for the breweries. In 1926, Hans Körner acquired the first Bissing truck and a sand pit in Alterlangen. Business developed much more cheaply as a result, as the sand could be used in the entire region. The unloading of coal wagons from the train station to the district hospital was also a flourishing business. In the pre-war years one could assert oneself more and more successfully.

Meanwhile, his son Alfred, born in 1920, had grown up and worked in the company with great interest, diligence and joy.

THANKS TO THE CONSTRUCTION BOOM FROM THE DEPTHS OF WAR

In 1946, after the difficult war years, there was a great boom due to the immense construction activity of the Siemens company. Hans and Alfred Körner started to buy newly developed machines, such as conveyor belts and bucket chain excavators, to make the heavy work on the slope in the pit more attractive and easier. Then there was also the purchase of containers. By purchasing the construction machines, the company was now also able to offer earthmoving for house construction and building material sales, in addition to sand, also gravel and crushed stone.

STILL IN FAMILY HANDS AFTER OVER A HUNDRED YEARS

The shareholder of today's company is the great-grandson of the company founder. The business is led by Mr. Martin Hagen.
