Safety Socket has come a long way since being acquired in 2004 by a private equity firm. Once producing almost exclusively high-quality, standard commercial socket head cap screw product, the vast majority of the company’s shipments today are: made-to-print specials; military and aerospace product; carbon-alloy steels to exotic stainless and everything in-between specials; subjected to mechanical performance tests well beyond their installation requirements; manufactured to a wide variety of specifications. Once producing primarily alloy fasteners, the company now regularly turns out product in standard and exotic stainless materials like A286, 17-4PH, Hastelloy® and Inconel®. Materials specifications such as B7M and B8M are daily occurrences. Safety Socket has even extended it offerings into tougher alloy grades like H11 and 8740. As its materials and drive style offering have expanded, so too has the number of industries served. Today, our products can be found in premium oil-and-gas, acid-resistant valves; heavy earth-moving equipment; roller coasters; the M1A2 tank; jet engines; naval guns; recreational vehicles and nuclear reactors.
Safety Socket’s manufacturing capabilities have also expanded, with sizes ranging from #4 through 1-1/2” (M4 thru M30). Fasteners are cold headed, warm headed, hot forged or machined as required – with machining on single or multi-spindle equipment available. A wide range of secondary operations are available, and the company has been called on to produce such demanding product as turbocharger shafts and riveting tools for the aerospace industry. The company has no minimum production restrictions, and its longest production run was 1 million pieces with a length-to-diameter ratio of 15:1 and a very tight straightness constraint for automated assembly. Our “sweet spot” is a production run of between 5,000 and 30,000 pieces. Almost every support system in place at the company has been revamped. Quoting of made-to-print specials can usually be done in 24-36 hours, and accomplished using whatever communications approach best fits the customer’s requirements – online, email or fax. Customers have the peace of mind knowing that Safety Socket screens every order in a rigorous “contract review” session to detect any potential areas for clarification, or where there are conflicting requirements in the order, before it is even confirmed back to the customer. This reduces the number of “surprises” our customers see – and those surprises are seldom pleasant ones! All job production information is stored electronically to facilitate instant retrieval, customer support and meeting ITAR restrictions. Certifications are available on-line, and most importantly, every aspect of this process is backed up with technical resources our customers can easily talk to
