OUR STORY

​S&S Waste started in 1987 when founder Sheldon Mickelson was stuck between a rock and a hard place. With zero dollars to his name, Sheldon relocated his growing family to South Florida from Washington State.

Facing financial struggles, Sheldon agreed to go into business with a family friend named Steve, hence the name S&S. After five weeks Steve excused himself of company responsibilities and just like that, Sheldon was thrown headfirst in the construction waste business.

Sheldon took full control of the business management. Through tough profit conversations, Sheldon discovered his friend Steve’s true intentions. Steve had not planned on being partners long-term, he only wanted to help Sheldon get back on his feet. Sheldon determined, paid Steve back for his portions and started with a clean slate.

From there, S&S Waste began to bloom… Through innovation, Sheldon grew the company from picking up trash by hand using borrowed truck, to purchasing trucks, to creating the first grapple truck for construction debris removal.

Over the past 36 years, S&S Waste has grown significantly and started a sister company called In & Out Portables per customers’ request. Overall, the businesses have grown to over 80 employees, over 50 trucks, serving over 10 counties in Florida. The company has continued to be renowned for its excellent service, and recognized as the originator of the Grapple System for construction waste removal which is still considered second-to-none.
