RethinkWaste, also known as the South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA), is a joint powers authority formed by eleven local government jurisdictions (City of Belmont, City of Burlingame, City of East Palo Alto, City of Foster City, Town of Hillsborough, City of Menlo Park, City of Redwood City, City of San Carlos, City of San Mateo, the County of San Mateo and the West Bay Sanitary District) in San Mateo County, California. These jurisdictions are known as the RethinkWaste Member Agencies and was formed in 1982.
OUR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
RethinkWaste:
1. Owns and manages the Shoreway Environmental Center in San Carlos, California which receives all the recyclables, green waste and garbage collected from the Member Agencies.
2. Provides strategic oversight, support and management of service providers that collect, process, recycle and dispose of materials on behalf of RethinkWaste.
3. Educates Member Agency residents and businesses through innovative and cost-effective waste reduction, recycling and solid waste programs.
4. Advocates for environmental best practices through policy and legislation.
