The multi-municipal system for sorting, collecting, recovering and treating urban solid waste in the Central North, RESINORTE, was created and constituted on October 20, 2009, through Decree-Law nº 235/2009, later amended by Decree-Law nº 106/2014 of July 2nd.

This System covers a geographical area of 8,090 km2, serves a population of approximately one million inhabitants and generates around 400 thousand tons of urban waste per year.

RESINORTE is the concessionaire of the North-Central System, being, since July 28, 2015, a company with mostly private capital, with a share capital of 8,000,000 euros, distributed by Empresa Geral de Fomento, S.A., in the percentage of 75.1%, with the remaining 24.9% distributed among some of the Municipalities that use the system directly or through associations.
