ResHydro is a clean technology firm that harnesses the power of water currents to produce utility grade electricity.
Using resonance, our patented hydropower system converts the maximum amount of energy from any water flow. We do this by inducing and maintaining the phenomenon of flutter at all water speeds – continuously operating at the point of resonance.
Our unique hydrofoil design supports a low levelized cost of energy. Scalable, modular, and highly cost competitive, Reshydro's technology enjoys a favorable position in today's capital and regulatory environment.
Our patented system induces "flutter" at all water velocities, creating a broad operating range and markedly higher overall water-to-wire efficiency.
Our specially shaped hydrofoils operate at very low frequencies, far too slow to endanger marine life or produce any harmful turbulence.
ResHydro's Hydrokinetic Contraphase Resonator (HCR) is based on the phenomenon of flutter, a powerful and natural oscillatory phenomenon, until now known principally as a highly destructive force capable of tearing apart aircrafts, bridges and other structures.
The ResHydro HCR system induces and maintains flutter in all flow conditions, operating continuously at the point of resonance. This ensures that it always extracts the maximum amount of energy from a given flow, regardless of water velocity.
No competing technology can do this.
The Hydrokinetic Contraphase Resonator (HCR)
Our proprietary HCR consists of three primary components that together induce and maintain flutter to derive more electricity than any other hydrokinetic device.
The Hydrofoils capture the kinetic energy of moving water. Each hydrofoil is free to move about two axes: the rotational axis and the translational axis. As water flows through the HCR, the hydrofoils oscillate both translationally and rotationally, recreating the phenomenon of flutter underwater. The rotation of the hydrofoils is required for flutter to occur, but only the translational movement is converted into power.
The Control Module governs the motion of the hydrofoils, ensuring that flutter is maintained continuously in all water conditions, by controlling the inertia and elasticity of the system. The control module is able to apply force both rotationally (either clockwise or counter-clockwise) and translationally (either left or right), and so has the ability to completely control the motion of its hydrofoils to induce hydroelastic resonant oscillation.
The Power Module converts the translational motion of the hydrofoil into usable energy with a hydraulic pump which transmits energy onshore through hydraulic cabling.
Cost:
Modular and scalable, our unique yet simple hydrofoil-based design allows for true economies of scale, with low capital costs and a low levelized cost of energy.
Our two to four hydrofoil modules are designed to be installed in large arrays, while still enjoying operational independence between single units – that is, for regular maintenance or emergency repair, an individual HCR module may be stopped, removed, and replaced while the rest of the units continue to operate at full capacity.
Power:
The HCR's proven water-to-wire efficiency, established in our 2000 proof of concept test, demonstrated overall efficiencies greater than that of turbine-based competitors. The system is capable of extracting maximum power at all times and in all water conditions.
Market:
Due to its broad operating range, the HCR can be installed and maintained at all depth levels and in all water velocities. This allows HCR power plants to be sited in a variety of locations. The HCR is also unobtrusive and designed to be entirely submerged, causing no visual impact or obstacle to shipping or recreational activities.
Environment:
Our specially shaped hydrofoils operate at very low frequencies, far too slow moving to endanger marine life or produce any harmful turbulence. Further, unlike some competing technologies, we generate electricity onshore, avoiding concerns over electrical leakage in the marine environment. ResHydro presents a truly environmentally sound source of clean energy.
Durability:
Born of the aeronautics industry, our sealed hydraulic power transmission system is reliable in the harshest of conditions.
