RES Americas is one of the top renewable energy companies in North America. Our parent company RES Ltd. is headquartered in the U.K. and was founded in 1982. The RES Group of companies has constructed nearly 100 wind projects with a total capacity of more than 8,000 megawatts (MW) around the world.
RES Americas has been active in North America since 1997, and has a renewable energy and storage construction portfolio that exceeds 7,000 MW and over 70 projects, as well as 534 miles of overhead and transmission lines. In addition, RES Americas has a robust development pipeline of wind and solar projects across North America, and the company currently operates more than 200 MW of renewable energy and storage projects.
We developed and constructed our first project, the 60 MW Cameron Ridge wind farm in Tehachapi, California in 1999. In 2001, we co-developed and constructed the 278 MW King Mountain Wind Ranch in Texas, the largest wind project in the world at the time. In 2006, RES Americas financed and completed construction of our first ownership asset in the U.S., the 60 MW Whirlwind Energy Center in Texas. In 2008, we completed our second owned project in Texas, the 166 MW Hackberry Wind Farm.
WHAT WE DO
RES Americas is an established leader in the North American renewable energy industry. We have been active in the U.S. since 1997, and our parent company, RES Ltd., was formed in 1982.
RES Americas specializes in third-party EPC and BOP construction services for the renewable energy, transmission, and energy storage industries, as well as third-party development services for renewable energy, transmission, and storage projects. We also build renewable energy and storage projects we have self-developed.
Please visit the Stakeholders section to learn about what we offer Utilities and Third-Party Investors, Electric Cooperatives, and Landowners.
The Competencies section describes our activities in wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage, as well as the range of services and expertise we can provide to assist you with technical and commercial analysis, development, engineering, and construction.
Two types of technology are used to turn sunlight into electricity.
Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)
CSP systems are used in large-scale (50 megawatt+) projects in areas with high direct sunlight. CSP uses the sun as a heat source to generate steam, which rotates a large turbine, which in turn activates a generator that produces electricity. CSP systems consist of three main types: parabolic troughs, dish engines, and central receiver towers. By generating thermal energy, CSP systems are able to also offer cost-effective energy storage, as well as the ability to produce energy during cloudy periods and after the sun has set.
