Recycling Services understands the critical need to educate the public and to create a market for recycled products. Our vision is to become a community-based, self-contained recycling center. RSI has made a moral decision to provide an educational program that is essential to life itself. We strive to provide a center where recycling will create new products from old ones, and to preserve the rich heritage of the earth for future generations through other projects including organic farming, renewable resources and land preservation.
As we continue Saturday only collection, on nice days it's a bit hectic, but everyone is keeping busy. At this time of year I dream of a nice inside workspace, with so many empty buildings you'd think...well, I can dream. So many stalled projects for lack of space. Now to face another winter. Cold weather brings out fewer recyclers and added expense of operation. Going on 44 years now of our program, words of encouragement and big checks are welcome...oh, and hugs, especially if you're a single, lovely Fairy Goddess...OK, I'm still dreaming.
Changes in phone numbers and e-mails have left us with just a handfull of volunteers to contact. If you have signed up before and not been contacted in the last month, your information has been lost. Please sign up.
Our yearly drive for supporting members needs to raise $75,000 to meet our 2015 budget. Immediate needs include a truck for local hauling, cement patching, a baler for foil, a grinder for plastic caps, and loading dock repairs. Please ask for more details or designate an item on your check for support.
On Saturday, Dec. 13th at 1:30pm at the center we will have our yearly membership meeting. Your input is important! Please call or e-mail ideas if you can't attend.
Collection of materials does not in any way imply endorsement. Just because something is recyclable doesn't mean it is the best choice. Recycling is the last "R" in the cycle - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle. The best choice is to reduce your impact - buy products with minimal or no packaging. Next, re-use (and choose re-usable products like rechargeable batteries and cloth shopping bags) whenever possible. Re-using an item only once cuts its environmental impact in half, and choosing and re-using durable goods many times can have an enormous positive environmental impact. The Recycling Center should be the last stop - the final option when an item has worn out beyond use.
Notice: Clean your plastic and polycoated paperboard deposits please - better yet, use durable products instead.
