RECO Equipment, Inc. was organized and founded in 1983 by Robert E. Hathaway, the former president. The company began with 28 employees in the Ohio coal fields at Morristown, Ohio. Today RECO Equipment, Inc. employs 195 people at seventeen different locations. Twelve of these locations are responsible for RECO Equipment, Inc. and five are Bobcat of Pittsburgh, owned entirely by RECO.Belmont, Ohio was the original location of RECO Equipment, Inc. and remains corporate headquarters. Branch expansion began in Columbus in 1985 and in Cincinnati in 1986. After continued growth, larger new facilities were built in Columbus in 1987 at the present Perimeter Drive location. The Cincinnati Branch was moved to a more central location in Monroe, Ohio in 1995 with a new facility constructed in 2006.
On January 1, 1994 RECO Equipment, Inc. acquired Bobcat of Pittsburgh, which was located in a single facility on the south side of Pittsburgh. The operation was moved to Cranberry Twp, Pennsylvania in April of 1994. In May of 1995, a Bobcat Branch was opened in Youngwood, Pennsylvania and subsequently moved to a larger new facility in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Bobcat of Pittsburgh is run as an entirely separate operation. Concurrently a RECO Equipment, Inc. branch was formed at the same Cranberry location that houses Bobcat of Pittsburgh. In 1996 a new and separate building was built to house RECO Equipment, Inc.’s Pennsylvania operation.In October of 1997 RECO Equipment, Inc. purchased the assets of OTEC (Ohio Tractor Equipment Co.). OTEC had branches located in Hudson and Perrysburg, Ohio. This acquisition provided RECO Equipment, Inc. full coverage of all major trading areas in the state of Ohio. A new building was purchased in Richfield, Ohio and the Hudson operations were moved to the new facility in June of 1998.In September of 1998 another Bobcat branch was opened in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania to serve Southern Allegheny and Washington county customers. This branch was moved to a larger newer facility in Meadowlands, Pennsylvania.
In April of 2008 an ownership succession plan was implemented. Paul D. DiTullio (Vice President and General Manager of Bobcat of Pittsburgh), Joshua A. Gasber (Vice President of Product Support and Administration), and Reed B. Mahany (Vice President of Sales, now President) were installed as Board Members and Share Holders of the Corporation. They have been with RECO since 1994. Their wealth of experience will ensure a smooth transition of ownership to RECO Equipment's business and financial partners in the years ahead.In December of 2008, RECO Equipment, Inc. opened the doors of its seventh RECO facility by purchasing the assets of Newman Equipment, Inc. This facility is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This expanded footprint from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis provides a larger equipment fleet and parts inventory to draw upon.
In May of 2011, RECO Equipment, Inc. opened its first Michigan facility and its eighth location in Brighton, MI. This latest location enhances RECO's ability to serve the scrap and demolition industries in the Detroit metro and Southern Michigan area.On September 1, 2011 a fourth Bobcat branch was opened in Indiana, PA. Bobcat of Indiana County, a full service facility, completes coverage to all four corners of the Bobcat territory.
2014 was a year of multiple expansions for RECO, with the acquisition of another Bobcat store in Erie, PA, Bobcat of Erie and the acquisition of Republic Crane, LLC. The Republic Crane, LLC acquisition gave RECO operating coverage throughout the southeastern United States. In January 2015, RECO Equipment Inc. opened a service location in Bartow, FL.RECO Equipment, Inc. is a full line distributor supplying all types of construction and mining equipment – new, used and rental. The company operates a fleet of 60 fully equipped service trucks with cranes, computers, compressors and welders on each. RECO operates an additional support fleet of about 60 vehicles. All of the vehicles are painted metallic silver with the distinctive “RECO” displayed on the doors.
RECO serves scrap processing, coal mining, construction, excavating, and industrial customers in our manufacturer-assigned territories; which cover the entire state of Ohio, Florida, western Pennsylvania, and parts of West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, and Kentucky. Each branch operation is linked together via a computer network so that parts and machinery inventories are easily shared. In addition, RECO maintains both internet and computer to computer communication with our manufacturers, permitting rapid order entry and availability checks for our customers’ parts requirements.RECO Equipment, Inc. is proud of its history and growth.
