At Precious Metal Arts, we specialize in helping individuals realize their artistic goals. We offer classes and workshops covering all the fundamental aspects of jewelry design and creation, and provide customized continuing education through our unique small group tutoring. We even offer open studio time for you to practice your developing skills at a professional jeweler’s bench as you learn, without having to invest hundreds of dollars in tools and equipment. 

Experience Matters 

Instructor Peter Solomon brings a colorful depth of knowledge from a 25 year history in jewelry manufacturing arts. Trained in South Africa by a German master goldsmith, he worked in both large scale jewelry production and limited edition line creation before joining the teaching staff at the renowned Gemological Institute of America. Peter brings a unique blend of humor, creativity and practicality to both his own work and the techniques he passes on to his students.

Custom Design and Repair 

Okay, we admit it. It's possible that not everyone who has a jewelry related project wants to do it themselves. So we offer a full range of traditional jewelry services; custom design, repairs, stone setting, model making, and a few more you probably haven't thought of. Peter's experience and "never say never" attitude are a winning combination for almost any jewelry challenge. 

Seminars

Yes, we can take this show on the road! From offices to conference centers to restaurants, our Soft Wax Workshop is uniquely portable and ridiculously fun for pretty much anyone. Or maybe you need someone to help train your bench people or get your shop in order. Demos for trade shows, technique workshops, even a Disney Creative Summit; we make it fun, fast, and functional. 

Open Lab/Studio Time 

You may already have some jewelry skills, or you've taken a few classes; now what? Many of our students don't have the space or the desire to set up a bench at home. So we offer open lab, allowing qualified students the space and the tools they need to pursue their jewelry making endeavors. Studio time is $15.00 per hour, with a two hour minimum; students must show ability to complete their work without assistance or supervision. Subject to availability and instructor approval.

Parties

You’ve probably heard of jewelry buying parties, but how about a jewelry MAKING party? Utilizing easy to use materials like soft wax or precious metal clay, we can make your special event really memorable. How about a baby shower where all the guests make charms for the mom-to-be? Or all the grand kids making gifts for Grandma’s birthday? You assemble 6 -12 of your coolest friends, and we’ll do the rest.

Tutoring 

Our unique small group tutoring sessions give students the opportunity to design their own creative adventure. Maybe you just want to learn stone setting. Maybe you need to brush up on your soldering skills. Or you might need to be walked through a complex project step by step. We can guide you through anything from making a single piece to developing your new spring line, without wasting time or money learning things you don’t need. Your tutoring session is shared with a maximum of 4 other students. 

A unique application of our customized tutoring allows couples to design and actually create each other’s wedding rings! Peter will walk you through step by step, and can complete any aspect of the rings that you’re not comfortable doing yourself. .

Private Instruction 

Sometimes, it's all about you. We get that. So we offer private instruction and consultation in all aspects of jewelry design and creation. You can schedule up to three hours of intense "one on one" time with Peter to get going on your project quickly AND privately.
