About Company
As our name suggest we are a Company that are committed to protecting the environment, we understand how essential it is to protect the worlds fresh water resources whilst also working with our Customers to provide the most efficient, effective and competitive solution. Our goal is to design systems that return the water as pure as practically possible than when we first borrowed it. By embracing the environmental challenges facing our daily lives our business has become an industry leader in design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of environment friendly wastewater and effluent treatment solutions.

But that is not what Pollution Control are only about. Our Agricultural ‘Groundhog’ division has provided slurry handling and mechanical Separation equipment for over 30 years, The same equipment is now used in other industries including the separation of digestate in Anaerobic Digester installations. Through our association with a world renown Layflat Hose manufacturer we have become market leaders in the design and manufacture of Hose deployment and retrieval systems whilst also providing a complete Container design, manufacturing and refurbishment service to a Nuclear fuel supplier.

Wastewater treatment

Pollution Control design, manufacture and supply environmentally acceptable solutions for treating all types of Wastewater, including Sewage and Industrial effluents. Our solutions utilise a combination of Mechanical, Biological, Physical and Chemical processes to remove particles and suspended solids, organic pollution and nutrients from the Wastewater. When considering waste water treatment it is important to understand the sources of the wastewater generated, typical wastewater composition, discharge requirements, events and practices within a facility that can affect the quantity and quality of the wastewater, and pre-treatment ramifications.
Business sectors we cover include:

• Municipal (domestic) sewage treatment
• Commercial wastewater treatment
• Industrial: Bespoke effluent treatment solutions

Wastewater treatment generally involves four separate stages or processes: Pre-treatment, Primary settlement, Aerobic or anaerobic biological treatment and final clarification / tertiary treatment. For low flow and low strength wastewater applications these stages can be combined into a single compact integrated packaged treatment plant, but for larger flows and higher than conventional strength wastewater multi stage standalone solutions are provided.

Treating some Industrial effluents will also require some additional specialised processes.

Treatments
Pre-treatment
Pre-treatment removes gross solids that need to be screened before they damage or clog pumps or can cause inefficiencies further down the process by fouling the media in the Eco-SAF™. This is usually carried out by Hand or mechanical rake bar screens and De-watering equipment as required. In commercial wastewater treatment it may be necessary to also treat as a separate process the Fats, Oils and Grease that have accumulated.

Primary Settlement

Primary Settlement tanks and Lamella Plate Clarifiers allows solids to settle to the bottom and floating materials to be collected from the top and held back with a scum board system. A flow balancing chamber can also be incorporated to allow forward flow to the secondary treatment to be regulated.

Secondary treatment

The main secondary treatment process that we employ is the aerobic biological treatment process. This stage is designed to ensure that the bacteria and other microorganisms that remove dissolved and suspended biological matter (contaminants) from the wastewater are provided with a stable environment to work. The aerobic biological treatment process takes advantage of bacteria’s remarkable ability to use diverse wastewater constituents to provide the energy for microbial metabolism and the building blocks for cell synthesis. Aeration is a fundamental component of aerobic biological wastewater treatment as it provides the oxygen for the microbial population to thrive. Without oxygen aerobic biological treatment would not function. Fine Bubble diffused aeration provides mixing and economic oxygen transfer efficiency. Our biological treatment processes incorporate aeration with or without biofilm growth media in the design to provide treatment for a wide range of wastewater and effluents.

Final Clarification and Tertiary treatment

Lamella plate Clarifiers or standard final settlement tanks are used to further purify the wastewater and to settle the biomass with return activated sludge (RAS) pumped to the beginning of the second stage where it will be absorbed into the fresh wastewater. This allows the process to operate on a continuous cycle. Tertiary treatment includes treatment processes that remove stubborn contaminants that standard secondary treatment was not able to clean up or there if a very stringent wastewater discharge consent limit being applied. Tertiary treatment technologies can be an extension of conventional secondary treatment (Eco-N-SAF) to further stabilise oxygen-demanding substances in the wastewater to protect the receiving water from excess nutrients.

When considering waste water treatment it is important to understand the sources of the wastewater generated, typical wastewater composition, discharge requirements, events and practices within a facility that can affect the quantity and quality of the wastewater, and pre-treatment ramifications.
