Platte River Power Authority is a not-for-profit wholesale electricity generation and transmission provider that delivers safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and competitively priced energy and services to its owner communities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, Colorado for delivery to their utility customers.
Platte River’s Headquarters is located in Fort Collins and its generation and transmission facilities are located along Colorado’s Front Range and in northwestern Colorado.
OASIS stands for Open Access Same-Time Information System. Platte River is a subscriber to the webOASIS Service provided by the Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI). Platte River posts available transmission capacity for reservation on the OATI webOASIS.
Platte River Power Authority continually manages vegetation in and near its transmission right-of-ways to maintain safety and electric reliability.

Located 26 miles north of Fort Collins, Colorado, the Rawhide Energy Station is the flagship of Platte River Power Authority’s generation resources. Tours of the plant are provided by reservation only and guided by experienced staff. Participants gain a basic understanding of the coal-fired electricity generation process at Rawhide including its state-of-the-art environmental systems.
Rawhide tours may be scheduled Monday through Thursday with start times between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday tours are preferable and easier to schedule.
Tour groups must have a minimum of five people. The maximum number of people per tour is 50.
Tour participants must be at least 8-years-old or in the 3rd grade. Exceptions may be made if a younger child is accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Tours start on time and take approximately 1-1/2 hours. If you arrive late, your tour time may be shortened.
