1967 - Recycling depot set up at The Old Cider Stores, Baltonsborough, near Glastonbury, Somerset and developed the business by building a new 12,000 square foot warehouse with 16,000 square feet of concrete storage area outside during the mid 1970's, together with a modern baling plant and a fleet of lorries which took the company into the collection of waste paper from printers and industrial works in the area. The company by now was processing over 150 tonnes of waste paper per week
1970s Baltonsborough was devloped an d had a fleet of lorries, and was servicing local printers and industrial premises. He had established new markets in Europe for the 150 tonnes of recyclable material collected per week with the help of his brother, Ron. The business was formed into a Limited Company with Ron and Brian's wife Valerie becoming Directors.
In 1975 with the growing need to develop markets to sell recyclable material for the small independent business, Brian was one of the founder members of the Independent Waste Paper Processors Association.

This proved very successful and economically sustainable, and is now the standard in the UK. This stimulated the boom in recycling from the community. In 1987 we developed our Taunton depot which improved service to local customers.
Samantha joined the company in 1990 training in all areas of the administration and even taking her fork lift licence. Today she is Company Secretary, Director and proud Mother of two, and still plays an important role in the business.

2004 saw the relocation of our Taunton depot to Bridgwater, with extra investment in bigger baling and shredding equipment. This enabled us to cope with increased demand and expand our range of recycling services to customers throughout the South West with three depots.
2006 we saw the company develop a range of recycling and waste management services to our existing and new customers, in line with increased landfill tax, corporate and social responsibilities, carbon footprint assessments and the promotion of B2B & B2C green credentials in new business and products.
2008 saw investment in another large shredder at Marston Magna and other equipment in order to expand our processing and handling capabilities. We have also invested in a new website which will improve customer care, service and general information for our customers.
2009 The company expanded the range of security destruction service with a new high security mobile shredding lorry. Enabling the shredding process to be carried out at the customer premises with certificate of destruction issued on-site.
2011 Dave Hannaford and Adam Perry joined the company and developed the new rigid plastics division with new shredders and granulators handling rigid plastics such as wheeled bins, drainage piping, trays, drums, containers etc. Adding value to our customers in broadening the range of recycling services
2013 Brian's six grandchildren (Jack aged 10, Alexander aged 7, Megan aged 9, Benjamin aged 5, Jessica aged 8, Isabelle aged 6), contribute towards the family business, helping promote the Charity paperbank scheme ‘Local recycling for local needs' with £10 for every tonne recovered going to the Somerset Community Foundation Trust and local worthy causes.
The future for recycling looks bright although demand for recycling is heavily dependent on the export markets, especially China & Asia. These countries are now the worlds manufacturing base, along with internal growth of anticipated 10% per year, will see demand long into the future, although commodity prices will become more of a variable, which could see the old volatile price markets return again.
Perrys Recycling will continue to provide ethical, reliable and sustainable solutions to customers, with a personal and friendly service We are also working with the waste industry in developing strategic opportunities for recovery options from residue waste in the future.
