History

The Sustainable Consumption Center Patina was opened on December 8, 1999 at Vesijärvenkatu 27.

Patina's main task was to make recycling activities more efficient in Lahti. In addition to this, the goal was to employ unemployed people interested in the field and to help the long-term unemployed get re-employed.

Patina's operations were developed and financed by the City of Lahti, Hämee Employment and Business Center, Lahti Employment Office, Päijät-Hämeen Jatehuolto, Päijät-Hämeen Education Group and the European Social Fund.

In Patina there was a reception of goods, a curtain room, a sewing shop, a jewelry shop, a repair shop and a recycling shop, and in Kujala Rakennus Patina. Patina also served as a learning center where recycling renovators were trained in the recycling and reuse of goods and materials.

Various presentations on waste management and environmental protection were also organized at Patina's premises.

In 2000, Patina received the environmental factor of the year recognition award.

2001 Patina became part of Tuoterenka's operation and the name became Päijät-Patina.

In December 2003, Patina moved to the former property of the Nelo bakery on Jalkarannantie.

Green sofa project 2008 – 2012, during the project, recycling and reuse trainings were organized and the operation of the recycling workshop was developed.

During the Kiertoliike project 2016 – 2018, planning began and a goods reception and warehouse store was opened in Kujala.

In January 2019, the renewed Recycling Center was opened on Katsastajankatu.

2019 Patina was awarded a certificate of honor issued by the Association of Finnish Recycling Centers. It is a recognition of successful activities in the promotion of recycling and employment in the operations of Finnish recycling centers.

In January 2020, Patina moved under Harjulan Setlementti ry.

2021 Patina opened an online store.
