Oslund Jewellers have been downtown in the 300 block of Main Street, Penticton since Thursday May 27th 1965 when they opened their store at 329 Main Street – 51 years to the present date.  With seven jewellery stores already in Penticton at the time we were planning our opening, our bank manager assured us Penticton did not need another and did not give us a leap of faith we were hoping for.   However we assured him  that we would know in the next six months whether Penticton did indeed need or would  support  an eighth jewellery store. Little did we know at that time that  we would end up with sixteen employees in our three stores twelve years later in 1977.  How things have changed – One of our opening specials was English bone china cups and saucers @ .99 each- 10 karat gold rings priced at 9.88 -14.88-19.88-24.88 – gold was 32.00 an ounce at the time.  We featured a fine line of Swiss made watches especially for our store with the name “Oslund Jewellers” on the dial as well as the well knownBulova brand.  Many of the other brands of merchandise we featured such as McBrineluggage ,Royal Albert and Royal Doulton china,Sheaffer pens and pencils, jewel cases, dresser sets, 1847 Rogers Bros. and Community silver plated flatware, silverplated tea sets,Westclox clocks, Czechoslovakian crystal, leather goods and Ronson lighters have long since vanished from jewellery stores shelves and new other lines of merchandise have taken their place.  

Diamond engagement and wedding rings, birthstone rings, watches, costume jewellery, especially pierced earrings were popular sellers.Jewellery  and watch repairs became a big part of our business.  August 31st 2008we retired  and closed our store to move upstairs above our old store to give Ralph something to keep him busy in his retirement and  maintain our relationship with all our many customers in the South Okanagan,Similkameen who have dealt with us since our opening for business  these many years ago.  We have always enjoyed our contact with all our friends and customers,we have treated them the same way we like to be treated and enjoy seeing them when they come in for us to solve their jewellery problems.That is what we have done these many years,  we enjoy doing that and hope to continue for years to come. And we still deal with the same bank, different manager, 51 years later.  Friendly, personalized, reliable, dependable, service is what we have been known  for  since 1965 and we receive many customers who have been recommended  to us by our customers because of our reputation. A good reputation seems to go a long way.  We still specialize in jewellery repairs, special order diamond rings and jewellery for special occasions, custom made jewellery, ring remounting, jewellery appraisals, Seiko watches, engraving, long service award gifts, graduation rings in gold and silver for Summerland, Penticton, Oliver  and Princeton Secondary Schools. Our contacts with all the many factories and services we have dealt with the past 51 years enable us to  solve most  of our customers’ requests.  “Gifts For Every Occasion” has been our motto all these years.
