Located in the northwestern suburbs of New York City, Orange & Rockland and its utility subsidiary Rockland Electric Company deliver energy to customers in seven counties in New York and northern New Jersey. We serve approximately 300,000 electric customers in all three states and approximately 128,000 natural gas customers in New York.
Our service territory encompasses a thriving 1,300 square-mile region, principally residential in nature, with a broad base of commercial, industrial, agricultural and recreational facilities.
At O&R, we're committed to conducting all of our dealings in a fair, ethical and lawful manner. To support this commitment, we've developed a comprehensive Ethics Program designed to assist us in transacting business in the best interest of our customers and investors, and in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Our support for our Ethics Program is affirmed by O&R Policy 1.02, Ethics: A Statement of Policy. In our Ethics Program, as with all company initiatives, we're guided by our core values of service, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence and teamwork. Without exception, every employee of ours is required to follow the policies and practices set forth in the Standards of Business Conduct.
We have a Director - Ethics and Business Standards, who is responsible for developing, monitoring and enforcing all aspects of the corporate Ethics Program. Effective training and communication initiatives are also promoted to support the Ethics Program.
We've also established a Business Ethics Council consisting of 15 employees representing a cross section of the company that acts as an avenue by which ethics-related issues and concerns are communicated between employees and the Ethics Office.
