St. Patrick’s Day is a major holiday for the Chicago area, and each year, it represents a annual milestone for National Metal Fabricators. It was that day in 1944 that we powered up the machines and opened our doors to the public on the Near South Side of Chicago. In no time, we were supplying fabricated parts and rolled angle rings for use in the war effort and local industries. We supplied parts for defense and domestic industrial use during World War II. It was during that era, which reflected an unprecedented technological modernization period, that inspired us to become an innovative force in this industry. With the family still at the helm,we’ve kept that attitude to this day.  By the early 1960’s we had outgrown our Chicago facility and in 1964, we relocated to our current site in Elk Grove Village. We faced a growing demand for our services, and we expanded our new building twice. Today, our facility is 50,000 square feet, positioned in a spot that grew to become the industrial heart of the Chicago metropolitan area

When the 1980’s and 90’s hit new dynamics dictated new directions, and National Metal’s third generation of family ownership took that new road to fruition. We purchased Held Metalcraft, developed and marketed the DARA Job Tracking System, and installed our first laser cutting center. Since our beginning National Metal Fabricators has always been a major supplier to the construction industry and has contributed in a major way to the architectural landscape of the region. If you’ve driven through Chicago’s unique Lower Wacker Drive, you’ve seen the cement column supports we helped to produce. When you pass through the International Terminal at O’Hare Airport, look up at the ceilings in the baggage claim area and see the panels we made. During your next trip to the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL, look up as you enter the grounds and see the laser-cut leafy pattern in the steel canopy over the entrance and the aluminum panels on the gates. All produced at National Metal, by our team of highly skilled craftsman.  Much of our contributions to Chicago’s magnificent skyline are less noticeable but just as important: iron stair parts, custom indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, interior drapery pockets and forms, aluminum and stainless steel column covers, decorative exterior metal forms, and numerous other metal parts.  Our sheet metal fabrication services have played an important role in sectors beyond construction. We’ve had a major hand in conveying, automotive, locomotive, specialty machinery builders, agriculture, refrigeration, amusement parks and so many more. The list seems to grow longer each day.
