Namibia Critical Metals Inc. (TSXV:NMI) is a Canadian public company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange which holds a diversified portfolio of critical metals projects all within the country of Namibia. The Company has been operating in Namibia since 2005 and up until late 2017, its sole focus was on the development of the Lofdal Heavy Rare Earths Project in northern Namibia. In addition to the Lofdal Heavy Rare Earths Project, which offers a sustainable supply of dysprosium and terbium, the Company is now a major player in an emerging cobalt district in Namibia.
Our Company was originally named Namibia Rare Earths Inc., which was incorporated in April 2010 and effective May 30, 2018, Namibia Rare Earths Inc. changed its name to Namibia Critical Metals Inc. to better reflect its newly diversified resource base.
In early 2018, the Company acquired a portfolio of projects from Gecko Namibia (Pty) Ltd. (“Gecko”) which expanded its interests into a variety of commodities including cobalt, copper, lithium, tantalum, niobium, vanadium, nickel and gold. The transaction also consolidated a strategic partnership with Gecko as the majority shareholder. Gecko is a private, Namibian-owned, fully integrated exploration and mining company which will greatly assist in fast-tracking projects through feasibility to mine development.
The Company now has a pipeline of critical metals projects at various stages of development, spanning the spectrum from near-term discovery to preliminary economic assessment. This diversification will provide the Company with considerable flexibility in targeting those commodities which can best provide shareholder value. The criticality of many of these metals is well understood in current applications for battery and electric vehicle technologies. New and diverse applications arise from the extensive research and development programs being conducted through both government and private sector initiatives. This constantly evolving technical landscape provides abundant opportunities in the critical metals sector. At the same time, the geopolitical risks associated with sourcing many of these metals has become a repeated concern for manufacturers and end users.
By building a staged, project portfolio comprising the most essential elements within a single, stable mining jurisdiction, Namibia Critical Metals has created a long-term value proposition for its shareholders and ultimately, for the country of Namibia.
