NaiKun envisions an offshore wind project off the northwest coast of British Columbia providing a range of electricity generation capabilities from 400 megawatts in the first phase up to a possible 2,000 or greater megawatts.

Since project planning began a decade ago, there have been major advances in offshore wind technology and engineering, ensuring that NaiKun’s project today can be delivered as efficiently as possible and at a greatly reduced cost.

Experts in Engineering, Design and Construction

NaiKun’s partners include Siemens and other internationally renowned experts in procuring, financing, building and operating large-scale renewable energy projects. This combined expertise will ensure the most cost effective and innovative solutions are available for the construction and operation of the NaiKun Project.

Project Layout

NaiKun is at an advanced state of development and has completed a detailed engineering design, operating plan, and turbine layout. The NaiKun Project would be located off the coast of Haida Gwaii in Hecate Strait, an area known for strong, consistent and reliable wind, where up to 110 wind turbines will be installed to provide provide 400 megawatts of clean, renewable energy to serve more than 200,000 B.C. homes.

NaiKun has entered into a Preferred Supplier Agreement with Siemens to use its new SWT-4.0-130 4MW turbines. The new wind turbine is based on the proven technology of Siemens SWT-3.6, the world’s most popular offshore wind turbine. The new technology includes upgrades to generator and rotor allowing for up to a 27% increase in annual energy production. These ongoing technology advances continue to improve productivity and the cost of electricity. For example, the 6 MW turbine under development has 50% fewer moving parts.

NaiKun has completed geophysical surveys of the project site, which includes detailed mapping of the seabed, water depth, topography and other related information that has supported the development of the most efficient project layout and engineering.
