Monitex, LLC (Monitex) is an innovative electronic equipment recycling organization that receives computer components from all over the United States for processing into renewable resources for remanufacturing.  Monitex concentrates on realizing the optimum reuse of these component parts which are harvested from obsolete, surplus or damaged electronic equipment. Currently Monitex processes in excess of 75,000 used computer monitors per month concentrating on providinglike new Cathode Ray Tube’s (CRT) to the remanufacturing providers who turn the parts into new televisions and monitors.  In recent years Monitex has developed unique methods to process the recycled plastic into like newplastic pellets used in new product manufacturing.  Many businesses are beginning to realize there is an increasing demand for Green Manufactured parts and especially electronic equipment here in the United States.  Many manufacturers are willing to apply Monitex’s unique processes and remanufacturing technology to this demand. Monitex plans to expand its staff of 60 employees to over 200 in the next several years to meet the growing demand by processing all categories of old electronic equipment, such as televisions, printers, cell phones, etc.  Large manufacturers such as Dell and Hewlett Packard have entered into processing agreements with Monitex as well as other substantial remanufacturing organizations as they have developed specific proprietary processes which give them a distinct advantage.Monitex, a Texas based limited liability company, was established to provide reuse and recycling services for businesses and individuals in Grand Prairie, Texas near the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.  Their current business model is built around the creative processing and reuse of hard to handle surplus and obsolete electronic equipment.  Currently Monitex specializes in computer monitors.  The goal is to harvest as many good CRT’s and useable plastic as possible and use the components to remanufacture monitors and televisions.  Since the CRT and plastic constitute the bulk of the weight of any newly manufactured monitor and television, the result is that over 75% of the materials are recycled in the remanufactured-finished product.  This process certainly qualifies as a “green solution” for both the existing surplus obsolete equipment that plagues this country and the remanufacturing of an electronic product that is ecologically desired.

Monitex service begins by developing a working relationship with various recyclers and/or corporate electronic equipment managers throughout the United States. Most electronic recyclers and corporate managers recognize the need to work with an organization that offers a complete reuse and end-of-life solution for their surplus or nonworking monitors and other electronic equipment.  The relationship with each vendor is clarified with the execution of a contract in the form of a simple Statement of Work (SOW) and an attached price guide.  Once the terms of the relationship are established, the equipment is received, inspected and entered into a computerized database.  Trained technicians examine each piece of equipment to determine if the product is to be reused or recycled.  A small percent of the good monitors are sold to authorized resellers to be employed again as a goodused monitor and the balance are de-manufactured for their component parts including the CRT’s, plastic, metal, wire and electronic boards.

Monitex currently provides recycling services to many companies throughout the United States; processing in excess of seventy five thousand (75,000) computer monitors a month.  In addition to the good monitors received, there is a portion of the monitors which are damaged beyond the point of reuse.  These monitors are being salvaged and used to remanufacture technologically-proven and ecologically-sound products.  The reusable CRTs are carefully packaged and shipped to the remanufacturer.  Once received, the CRT’s are further checked for functionality and prepared to be placed directly into the assembly line process.  A price advantage for the finished reusable CRT is that it is considerably less than its new counterpart. The units produced are offered with the same warranty and specifications as a new product.  Similar economies of scale are realized from other components being processed at the Monitex facility.

The recycling industry continues to grow at an increasing rate due to its obvious environmental as well as economic impacts on the world. Markets which are limited in their natural resources and/or seeking a price advantage are more likely to consume recyclable materials rather than explore the earth for more expensive methods of extracting those resources. This effort conserves existing natural resources and provides more affordable materials as well as a final destination for materials coming from abundant sources. 

As indicated above, Monitex sells component parts from disassembled monitors to manufacturers with whom they have established relationships with over the years, but they are beginning to see demands for recycled products in the United States.  This demand fills niche and specialty markets such as extra computer monitors, second televisions, remanufactured plastic products and recast metal products.  There are many reasons to consider the processing and remanufacturing of electronic equipment using recycled components.  There are many more reasons that manufacturers are considering Monitex to provide these services. Monitex is a member of the International Association of Electronic Recyclers (IAER), the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and is actively involved in the recycle industry, showing at and attending events like E-Scrap to keep a clear leadership role in the industry.Monitex was established to meet the need for proper disposal and recycling of monitors. Our primary role in the marketplace has been to find and purchase high volumes of non-working monitors while offering a safe and proper recycling solution.The non-working monitors are used to meet the high demand for low cost TVs and Monitors in underdeveloped countries. This enables us to offer inexpensive solutions for the average home in these markets that normally would not have had the opportunity to purchase them. Over time, Monitex ability to provide a proper solution for non-working monitors has expanded to other end of life technologies such as PCs, Servers, Printers, Laptops, and other electronic components for recycling.
