PHILOSOPHY
Mobius specializes in re-use advice and in the production of reconditioned building materials.
We are positioning ourselves as a player in waste reduction, limiting the use of raw materials and carbon emissions in the construction sector through reuse and reuse.
A series of simple, non-hierarchical observations is at the origin:
Raw materials :
Some are trying to assess the likelihood of depletion of the raw materials necessary for our economy. Although some estimates are debated, factual indicators clearly show that we have already exhausted the most easily accessible deposits. Beyond the economic impact that is beginning to be felt, the environmental weight of new extraction techniques is most alarming.
Energy:
Construction is the leading user of energy with 45% of national consumption. However, we must distinguish the energy used, heating, air conditioning, lighting, operation, from the energy devoted to the manufacture of the material of which the frame is made. Over the life of a high energy performance building, we can estimate that the share of the latter is 30 to 50%. While a major effort is being made to reduce user energy, much remains to be done for material energy. Extending the lifespan of materials and equipment is therefore an important lever.
CO2:
Energy and material production / extraction being intrinsically linked, greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 in the first place) linked to construction in particular (4th national emitter), precipitate living beings towards a climatic, economic, social and environmental crisis. 'exceptionally serious, thus underlining the obvious: unlimited production in a world of finite resources is nonsense. As with energy, reuse is a very efficient alternative and still under-subscribed.
Jobs and the economy:
Most of the materials are imported, producing several negative externalities: the CO2 impact of international transport, the neutralization of employment pools in importing countries, the mass marketing of products manufactured in uncontrolled social conditions, even precarious. Re-employment therefore addresses a viable social solution by establishing job-supporting structures, particularly industrial ones, that cannot be relocated and have a low level of qualification. It is a business sector conducive to the transition from a carbon economy to an economy aiming for neutrality.
Mobius has constructed two types of interventions, the juxtaposition of which may seem heterodox, but which takes on its full meaning in practice.
Mobius Conseil offers an alternative perspective of the act of (de) building by offering a "resource" reading of waste management. Resource diagnostics, project management assistance, environmental project management, are all solutions provided to project owners wishing to include their operations in a process of limiting environmental impacts.
Mobius Production implements the processes necessary for the marketing of re-used construction products. After a cycle of studies for a product, Mobius creates the technical line that allows its implementation.
