Grows and Cultivation- Cultivators must dispose of all medical waste through an OMMA licensed cannabis waste company. There are many reasons a grower may need to send their products or items to a waste company. Crop loss from mold, bugs, heavy metals, or other product that fails testing must be disposed of via a waste company. Anything in a grow operation that comes in contact with a medical marijuana plant must also be disposed of, EXCEPT FOR root balls, stems, seeds, and fan leaves; which can be burned, mulched, or composted in accordance with local law and in regulation with the Department of Environmental Quality.
Testing Laboratories- Testing laboratories will generate “sample” sizes of products along with disposable containers, culture slides, and items used in the testing process that contact with cannabis or THC. Testing will also generate leftover contaminated materials that will need to be disposed of. *some contaminated materials could be classified as hazardous and should be handled only by a licensed facility.
Dispensaries – Dispensaries will have products returned, out of date, or recalled. A product that gets contaminated by the local environment or becomes unsuitable to dispense to patients. Dispensaries should also dispose of gloves, packaging, and all other items that may come in contact with cannabis THC.
Processors – Processors can generate spent or partially spent biomass. That may also have chemicals that could be considered hazardous used in the extraction process. Processors may also have products that have failed testing or disposable items that have come in contact with cannabis THC that should be disposed of properly; including but not limited to wax paper, zip lock bags, gloves, mask, etc. that is used during processing.
