In 1865, Robert Mitchell Inc., was founded in Montreal, Canada. Its first expansion into the United States market was a leased building in Falmouth, Maine in 1966 selling stainless steel pipe, fittings to the local pulp and paper mills. In just a few short years, the company grew and expanded into fabrication. In 1972, Douglas Brothers became incorporated as a State of Corporation and moved into an 8,000 square foot building at its present location.

Today, the Portland, Maine facility is over 40,000 square feet. Douglas Brothers is proud to be a part of an even larger network of steel distributors including structural, plate metal and piping companies in the Canerector Inc Group, based out of Toronto, Ontario.
