Mid-South Metallurgical was founded in 1985 in Murfreesboro, TN as a small commercial heat treating operation using salt bath processes for the heat treatment of high speed tool steels. The business grew steadily adding atmosphere heat treating processes for carburizing and neutral hardening. Continued growth brought vacuum heat treating processes as well as ion nitriding .

In 2007, the company was acquired by Clif Coleman whose background includes over 20 years of leadership experience in successfully building and guiding organizations ranging from start-up and entrepreneurial ventures to multi-national corporate entities. An accomplished operations executive, his expertise in business performance has driven notable enterprise growth and improvement in the service, durable goods, and automotive supply chain sectors. His track record of success is based on his philosophy of continuous improvement and the relentless drive to build organizations committed to high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Coleman brought a renewed energy to Mid-South Metallurgical and a fresh vision to take the company “to the next level”. Under new leadership since 2007, Mid-South has invested heavily in new equipment to increase capacity and capability. Additionally, the organization received the ISO 9001 certification in 2009.
