The Metropolitan Environmental Trust, or the M.e.t. is a non-profit agency that operates recycling drop-off centers around the Tulsa metro area. The M.e.t. also hosts several environmental events throughout the year.In addition to managing recycling centers, the M.e.t. hosts a biannual household hazardous waste collection at the Tulsa fairgrounds in the spring and fall. We also host the Enviro Expo in April of each year to celebrate the Earth and to educate. We do environmental outreach from presentations to tours of centers. The M.e.t. also operates a bin-loan recycling program for non-profits, schools and churches interested in starting recycling programs. The M.e.t. operates 13 recycling centers in the Tulsa area, loans recycling bins to events and non-profit organizations, helps affiliated communities promote their own centers, and provides a recycling directory for residents. Our main goal is to educate citizens on recycling and the environment. To learn more about where you can recycle in Tulsa, visit our Centers page or search our recycling Directory for more resources for recycling.Whether you’re a weekend gardener who barely has time to mow the grass or an avid green thumb dedicated to cultivating the perfect lawn, composting should be an integral part of your garden and lawn care program. Why? Composting is easy and cheap, it’s good for your lawn and garden, and it helps the environment by reducing waste.Composting is the natural decomposition of organic material. With a bin or pile, a backyard composter turns waste like grass clippings, leaves and food scraps into a rich soil additive that can be used to make a more beautiful and healthier lawn and garden. Composting can range from almost effortless — just piling organic matter in a corner of your yard — to sophisticated — mixing various ingredients to get the right nutrient-rich results. Many everyday products such as paint and lawn chemicals can be dangerous if used or stored improperly, and cause serious environmental damage if tossed in the trash or poured down the drain. The M.e.t.’s biannualFairgrounds Pollutant Collection event at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds is the only free opportunity in Tulsa to dispose of your household hazardous waste properly. It is a truly important event that creates a safer and cleaner neighborhood and community. The collection is for residents of Bixby, Broken Arrow, Claremore, Collinsville, Coweta, Glenpool, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs, Tulsa and Tulsa County only, not businesses.
