About Company

Mercury Technologies' facility is the first in the nation designed specifically for and dedicated to the fluorescent lamp recycling industry. We recycle fluorescent lamps to reduce the amount of mercury waste harming the environment. Our location was chosen for both its convenient access to the interstate and also because it was a "greenfield" site, having no environmental impairment from prior use.Our facility p_building2.jpgis fully permitted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to recycle mercury bearing lamps. Mercury Technologies of Minnesota is an Energy Star Buildings Ally. Energy Star Buildings is a voluntary pollution prevention program which promotes whole building energy-efficiency.Mercury Technologies of Minnesota is a leading recycler of used fluorescent lamps which include compacts and HID lamps. We are ready to help producers and users of mercury-bearing lamps demonstrate their commitment to the environment by using advanced recycling approaches that truly make a difference.A significant and growing source of mercury waste is contained in the millions of fluorescent/HID lamps discarded annually. Thanks to technologies developed in part by Mercury Technologies of Minnesota, an American company, it is feasible to crush and separate the component parts of spent lamps.
On July 6, 1999, the US EPA published in the Federal Register (40 CFR Parts 260, 261, 264, 265, 268, 270 and 273) - "Hazardous Waste Management System; Modification of the Hazardous Waste Program; Hazardous Waste Lamps; Final Rule". This added hazardous waste lamps to the federal list of universal wastes (UW) regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and was effective on January 6, 2000. With the Universal Waste Rule, Generators, Small Quantity Handlers and Transporters cannot dispose of deemed hazardous in municipal landfills, and must either (a) manage them as a fully regulated hazardous waste with all the RCRA requirements and a Hazardous Waste manifest, or (b) recycle them at a permitted Destination Facility with reduced requirements and use of a Bill of Lading. Our facility is the first in the nation designed specifically for and dedicated to the lamp recycling industry. The location was chosen for both its convenient access to the interstate and also because it was a "greenfield" site, having no environmental impairment from prior use. The lamps are transported to the facility using appropriately licensed firms that serve the entire United States as well as Canada. An exclusive, economical and proprietary reusable container system designed to meet the most rigorous standards in the industry, is available to clients.
