In 1905, Bert Meeuwenoord, the great grandfather of the current owners, established a company at Zeestraat 32 a in Noordwijkerhout. From this location he, together with approximately 5 employees, ran a company that was busy in the summer with the transport of flower bulbs. In the winter, when there was less work in the flower bulb transport, there was a lot of shell fishing.
To the further development of passenger cars and trucks, Meeuwenoord has grown into a flourishing company for the regional transport of people and goods. Bert Meeuwenoord, founder of the company, died in 1953. The company was then continued by the two sons, Nic and Willem, and by daughter Mina. With these three people in office, Meeuwenoord developed further, particularly in the field of transport and taxi transport. Willem Meeuwenoord died in 1968, which prompted Willem and Nic's sons to take over the company. From that moment on, the growth of Meeuwenoord gained momentum again and waste recycling was also added to Meeuwenoord's activities.
In 1975 new laws were introduced, requiring waste to be sorted before it was further processed. Meeuwenoord responded to this with the development of a waste sorting location and container rental. This business unit nowadays has a solid position within Meeuwenoord Group. At the spacious waste sorting area at Schippersvaartweg 85, the waste is sorted in an environmentally friendly manner and according to legal rules.
At the end of 2005, 100 years after the founding of Meeuwenoord, a large recycling hall was added and the work area expanded. Since 2007, Meeuwenoord also has a large sorting installation that sorts the waste into various residual and recycling flows.
Due to advancing technologies and a forward-looking image of the management, Meeuwenoord has developed many new business activities, such as:
Transport and operation of waste containers
- Self-sorting of waste and environmentally friendly recycling
- Conditioned flower & plant transport
- Transport of goods, with loading crane
- Innovative solutions for loading and unloading
The growth made the location on the Zeestraat too small. To accommodate all activities, the current headquarters on the Victoriberg was opened in 1987. As a result, the area of the company grew to six times that of its original location. In the future, the parts of the Meeuwenoord Group, namely Meeuwenoord Transport and Meeuwenoord Recycling, will be profiled even more as customer-oriented companies. Here, with a good view of the future, the satisfaction of the customers is pursued every day!
