Hawaiian Electric Company, and its subsidiaries, Maui Electric Company, and Hawaii Electric Light Company, serves 95% of the state’s 1.4 million residents on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, Lanai and Molokai.

We trace our founding to the vision of King David Kalakaua who first brought electricity to the people of Hawaii in the 1880s. Iolani Palace was one of the first royal residences in the world to be lit by electricity, preceding even the White House.
