Mags stands for "Mönchengladbach Waste, Green and Road Services - AöR". We are a service company and in the city of Mönchengladbach we are responsible for the maintenance of streets and green spaces as well as waste management. Our subsidiary GEM Gesellschaft für Wertstoffabnahme, Wertstoffverwertung und Entsorgung Mönchengladbach mbH is responsible for waste disposal, street cleaning and winter services. A total of over 700 employees work at mags and GEM.
Mayor Felix Heinrichs is the chairman of the mags administrative board, with Hans-Jürgen Schnaß (chairman) and Gabriele Teufel on the board. The company was formally founded in the form of an institution under public law (AöR) on January 1st, 2016 and started full operations on July 1st, 2016.
GEM is 94 percent a subsidiary of mags and 6 percent of the city of Mönchengladbach. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board is Hans-Josef Siemes. The managing directors are Gabriele Teufel (Chairwoman) and Hans-Jürgen Schnaß. GEM is certified as a waste disposal company and meets the quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
