It can be as simple as pumping your tank on a regular schedule or as complex as monthly maintenance on various components. For example:

Septic tanks- Generally, pump and inspect every 3 years (full-time AND seasonal residents)
Pump tanks, pump systems- Tested and inspected during regular scheduled maintenance
Drain field components- Inspected during regularly scheduled maintenance
Tank filters- Cleaned and checked yearly
Holding tanks- Pumped when the tank alert alarm goes off or at least once per year
All electrical components including alarms- Checked when tank is pumped
Troubleshooting- As needed
